the History

La Pobbia 1850 is one of  the oldest restaurants in Milan and still preserves the charm of its long-standing history.  Thanks to its good reputation and its attachment to tradition,  La Pobbia has joined  the exclusive group “Locali Storici d’Italia”  (Historic Places of Italy) and  has been awarded the title of  “Bottega Storica” ( “Historic workshop of Milan”) by the City of Milan.

In the nineteenth century it was a tavern providing  lodging and stabling, the last on Route Sempione before entering Milan.  In 1906  it became a  ticket office for the Milano-Gallarate steam tramway.

Nowadays, La Pobbia , which has been run for three generations by the same family, the Anzaghi family, is a distinguished and elegant restaurant.  It has kept its original architecture, overlooking a large garden, as well as the recipes of the most genuine Milanese tradition, that are combined with refined haute-cuisine dishes in a classic yet creative menu (made with attention to the smallest detail).

The guestbook has also gathered many big names in show business, science and fashion over the last century.

In 2009, La Pobbia 1850 and the Anzaghi family received the “Diploma con Medaglia D’oro” (gold medal award) in the occasion of the “Milano Produttiva” awards at Milan Chamber of Commerce, in recognition of “ 74 years of  commendable business activity”.
